Analysis Paragraph:
This issue is about the Roosevelt Corollary. This is represented by Roosevelt and his two "Big Sticks." The cartoonist's message, is that Roosevelt is the king of the world, by inappropriately using his powers.This is expressed by Roosevelt and his two "Big Sticks" of the new and diplomat. I can imagine a persons opinion at that time frame say, Roosevelt is winging the two sticks to see if it lands in South America or somewhere else. The cartoonist is using analogy. Analogy is being used while explaining the new and diplomaty people. Diplomat people/states can deal with people in a sensitive and effective way, while new people/states are new and can't develop that easily. The cartoonist is also using exaggeration. Exaggeration is being used with the size of Roosevelt compared to all the other states. This supports my opinion on American Imperialism, because this cartoon is showing how selfish Roosevelt is in taking advantage the "Big Stick."

This issue is about Roosevelt Corollary. This is represented, with Roosevelt and the "Big Stick." The cartoonist's message on this issue, is that Roosevelt is taking advantage of the "Big Stick," and controlling the whole world. This is expressed with Roosevelt and his size and the "Big Stick being whipped all around the world. I can imagine a persons opinion in this time frame be, Roosevelt is helping these states because the "Big Stick" is used to intervene with Latin America. The cartoonist uses exaggeration. Exaggeration is shown, by how big Roosevelt is and how small the states are. The cartoonist is also using symbolism. Symbolism is used, by the "Big Stick" which represents the right to intervene with Latin America if necessary. This cartoon supports my opinion on American Imperialism, because this cartoon shows how the U.S. takes advantage of their powers to control/govern other states.

The issue of the political cartoon is Open Door Policy. This is presented by China and all the other states waiting for trade. The cartoonist's message, is that the U.S. is in control of China and trade. This is expressed, because Uncle Sam is holding all the other states back and he's in front saying "I'm out for commerce, not conquest." I can imagine a persons opinion in that time frame be, the U.S. is just making sure the deal for trade is safe. The cartoonist used exaggeration. Exaggeration is shown, by all of the states and their weapons and expressions, but also exaggerating Uncle Sam's facial expression. The cartoonist also used labeling. Labeling is being used, with labeling the states and on Uncle Sam's hat it says trespasser. This cartoon supports my opinion on American Imperialism, because it is showing how the U.S. just wants to benefit themselves with profits, China territory, and be able to control trade.

This political cartoon is about the Annexation of Hawaii. This is presented, because of Queen Liliuokalani and at the top there is the word Hawaii. The cartoonist's message is that, the U.S. found out about Hawaii and what Hawaii contains(sugar plantations, fine climate). This is expressed with the newspaper Uncle Sam has in his hands and is reading. I can imagine a persons opinion at that time frame be like, this would help the U.S. with expansionism of territories and they can benefit many things from Hawaii. The cartoonist used labeling. Labeling is shown, by the information shown on the newspaper. The cartoonist is also using exaggeration. Exaggeration is used with Uncle Sam, the way Uncle Sam is wiser or very interested look with the information. The cartoon supports my opinion on American Imperialism, because this cartoon is showing the U.S. trying to take control of another territory to benefit the U.S.

This political cartoon is about the Panama Canal. This is shown, by the shore which says Panama, and Panamanian citizens on the shore trying to stop Roosevelt from entering to Panama. The cartoonist's message is, that the U.S. should not just invade a city to do what the U.S. wants. This is expressed, by Roosevelt and all of his weapons and equipment to build the canal. I can imagine an opinion from that time frame, saying that Roosevelt can do what he wants because of the Roosevelt Doctrine. The cartoonist uses exaggeration. Exaggeration is being used with Roosevelt, because Roosevelt is big and deadly because of all of the weapons and equipment on him. The cartoonist is also using symbolism. This is portrayed by the elephant bottom which symbolizes republicans. This cartoon supports my position on American Imperialism, because this cartoon is showing Roosevelt dominating Panama just to build what Roosevelt wants.

The issue of this political cartoon is about the Spanish-American War. This is shown, because on one side of the wall is the Philippines and on the other side is Spain. The cartoonist message, is that the U.S. should not govern/control other states problems. This is expressed by Uncle Sam asking the man "who are you going to throw those rocks at," which is usually how you would solve little children's problems. I can imagine an opinion from that time frame, that the U.S. is doing the right thing to prevent bigger problems that can occur from this event. The cartoonist used labeling. This is used with Uncle Sam, because he represents the U.S. The cartoonist is also using irony. This is shown by who Uncle Sam is talking to, because Uncle Sam should be talking to Spain by the harsh treatment they are giving states. This cartoon supports my opinion on American Imperialism, because I think the U.S. should not govern/control other states and this is showing my opinion.

The issue of this political cartoon is the Spanish-American War. This is the issue, because on the side of the cartoon there is a map of the Philippine Islands, and the side-note is telling us this is the takeover of the Philippines. The cartoonist's message is that the Spanish-American War was a horrible war. This message is shown because of all the dead citizens from the war. This message is also shown by the sword in the lady's hand which represents unbalanced justice with the treatment given to the citizens. I can imagine another person's opinion at that time frame say, that the Spanish-American War was necessary because the U.S. had to break the harsh treatment from Spain and Cuba. The cartoonist uses labeling. Labeling is shown with the map and the sword that says justice but is showing how unbalanced justice is. The cartoonist is also using exaggeration. Exaggeration is shown by the ways the citizens were killed, and possibly over exaggerating the skin color of the citizens. This cartoon supports my opinion on American Imperialism, because the cartoon is basically representing the effects of the U.S. getting involved with other peoples problems.

This political cartoon is about the U.S. Purchase of Alaska.You can identify that because William Seward is dragging this "iceberg" to the U.S. The cartoonist's message about the cartoon, is that Alaska is a big worthless chunk of ice, and the purchase was a mistake. This message is shown because in the cartoon Alaska looks like a piece of ice,and what most Americans at the time had referred it to Seward's Icebox or Seward's Folly . I can imagine a positive opinion from William Seward and how the purchase had benefited the U.S. with expansionism and materials (timber,oil). The cartoonist had used labeling. The cartoonist had shown what William Seward and another Russian gentleman are rolling once was Russian territory, but now is American territory. The cartoonist is also using exaggeration to persuade the reader. The cartoonist is showing the two men dragging the wagon with the "iceberg." The cartoonist is using exaggeration again to persuade the reader. The cartoonist shows that Alaska is an "iceberg," like a worthless piece of ice. This cartoon supports my opinion on American Imperialism, because it is showing that the U.S. did not really need to add this piece of Alaska territory to the economy.
